Pre-Existing Condition with Embrace Pet Insurance
Embrace does not cover pre-existing conditions – this is typical of pet insurance companies. However, they only consider the past 12 months when identify pre-existing conditions. This can be quite helpful for many pet parents who have a dog that may have recovered from a condition a couple of years ago but may suffer a reoccurrence in the future. As long as there hasn’t been any symptoms or care in the past year, the condition is typically not considered pre-existing.
Chronic conditions are covered by Embrace BUT only those that come about after the waiting period following enrollment. In other words, the chronic condition cannot be pre-existing.
Embrace Multi-Pet Discount and Military Discount
Embrace does honor a 10% multi-pet discount for multiple pet households insuring more than one pet. The discount is automatically applied to the policy.
A military discount of 5% is applied for all active and former military members.
Embrace customer service is friendly, fast, and generous. Simply ask about available discounts and they will see what they can do for interested pet parents.
Waiting Periods for Pet Insurance Plan Coverage
Upon enrollment, pet parents have a 14 day waiting period before submitting a claim for illness. The waiting period of an injury is only 48 hours. Orthopedic conditions have a 6 month waiting period. A waiver process is available. It requires a veterinarian visit to complete a report card that Embrace Pet Insurance calls the Embrace Orthopedic Exam Report Card. Once that is completed, the pet insurance company reviews and determines if coverage can be provided earlier.

Since they want to lock responses, I'll do it this way. There is no more history. You've been given her complete history 3 times and now you're just playing games. There are no missing records. There is nothing else to get. Maybe you didn't delete them or throw them out but your claims processors definitely aren't reading them. I have a claim that is more than 3 months old that is part of continuous care that you are simply sitting on.

Cons: Slow and/or lack of communication. Takes a while to fix errors on their end. Over a month ago, Embrace deposited $500 into my bank account by mistake and then told me that if I kept the money, I could no longer add the Wellness Plan in the future and that they would reserve the right to collect the money at any time. I told them that the deposit they made was an error on their end and that they could withdraw the money from my bank account. They told me that was not an option. I had to mail in a check, and after they confirmed they received it, I stopped hearing from them. It would be really great to hear from a supervisor or the billing department about what Embrace's plans are for the $500 that has been sitting in my bank account for over a month now...
4/20/21 Update: I didn't receive any communication from Sarah so I'm not sure where it is showing that she's reached out. If someone could please update me about when the money will be removed from my account, that would be very helpful.
5/3/21 Update: I'm giving one star back to Embrace because they finally took their money back. It took about two months, but at least it is resolved now.
Overall Impression of Embrace
After reading many reviews, the same issues arose repeatedly. Most pet owners (mostly dog owners) were on either side of the fence – LOVE THEM or HATED THEM. Those who hated Embrace were upset about one of three situations:
- Claims being denied.
- Claims taking too long to resolve.
- Premium increases.
The good news is that the majority of people who leave a review for the pet insurance company are happy with the coverage they are receiving from them. Considering that people are more likely to leave a negative review vs. positive one, it’s safe to say that Embrace is a good pet insurance.
